Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Avoid artificial methods to improve your page rank
Write relevant content for users on your site

Artificial improvements to your site with services (link farms, paid sponsors, etc.) may be very detrimental to your ranks. As search engines improve their rank algorithms, artificial methods will be rendered useless. Worst case, your rank may be dropped below its actual rank; best case, the irrelevant content dilutes your relevant content.

Although rank algorithms are always being improved to find relevant content, prospects will typically search from their point-of-view (POV), as opposed to your business' POV. For example, a bank may see themselves as a lending institute but the prospect would be searching to borrow money. So it is important to remember to create content by common keywords used by your prospects.
